Hot Tub Filters

Hot Tub Filters

Hot tub filters help to keep your hot tub water clean. It’s important to clean and maintain your filters regularly.

Every two weeks you should remove the cartridge and replace it with a fresh, dry cartridge. After that is done take a normal garden hose and rinse the dirty filter thoroughly. Remove the dirt or grime that had built up over time between every pleat on the filter.

Every three months you should change the water in your hot tub and thoroughly clean your filter again at this time. Rinse your filter as you do every two weeks. Once this is complete it is time to deep clean your filter and allows it to soak overnight. Place the filter into a bucket filled with a non-foaming filter cleaner and allow to soak overnight. We offer Leisure Time filter cleaner in our showroom. After the overnight soak removes the filter from your cleaning solution and rinse and allow the filter to dry.

Once per year, you should completely replace your filter. Even with proper care filters end up wearing out and need replacement.

Cloudy Hot Tub Water

Cloudy hot tub water can be caused by a variety of things:

hot tub and spa chemicals

  • Body Oils and Lotions
  • High pH or Alkalinity
  • Lack of Chlorine
  • Bad Filtration
  • Dead Algae

Test your hot tub and shock it

If you have a pH between 7.4 and 7.6 and alkalinity is between 100 and 150 (ppm) you can shock the water. Use the brand recommended for your type of hot tub with the recommended dosage. Let your tub run for about 20 minutes with the hot tub cover off.

Use a water clarifier

Be sure to use a water clarifier designed specifically for hot tubs, not swimming pools.

Drain and refill

When in doubt you can always drain and refill your hot tub. We recommend taking this step if you have cloudy water and it’s been over two months since a refill.
